Manpreet Singh is the current captain of the Indian national hockey team. The 26-year-old captain plays at half-back and holds 218 caps without a stoppage mark. He is also a member of Ranchi Rays of Hockey India League. Singh is currently dating Illi Najwa Saddique whom he met after a hockey tournament in person.

Manpreet Singh represented India for the first time in a major tournament in London 2012. World Junior Men’s Hockey and 2013 Sultan of Johor Cup. He won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and gold at the Asian Games in Incheon. Manpreet’s team went on to win gold.

Former German captain Moritz Fürste is an inspiration to him, and Sardar Singh’s style of play inspires him. He is a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham, and he wears the same number 7 as them.
In the 2013 Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup, he was selected as the captain of the Indian junior men’s hockey team. In the 2013 Sultan of Johor Cup, his Indian team won the gold medal in the final after beating Malaysia 3-0 in the final with Manpreet scoring a goal. The Asian Hockey Federation named him Junior Player of the Year in 2014.
In 2016, he made his debut for the Indian men’s hockey team. He played in the men’s hockey tournament, in which India won silver after defeating Australia 3-1 in the final. Manpreet Singh has represented India in over 259 international matches. At Mithapur Hockey Stadium, he started playing hockey at the request of his elder brothers, Sukhraj Singh and Amandeep Singh, and his father, Baljit Singh.
Manpreet Singh then participated in the 2016 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. He was shocked to learn of his father’s death before the tournament began. He returned to the team after the funeral, and the Indian team eventually took the gold.
Manpreet Singh was the first Indian player to win the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Player of the Year award last year. Manpreet will be participating in his third Olympic Games after Rio in 2016 and London in 2012.
