Chetan Anand Biography

Chetan Anand is an Indian professional badminton player who was born on July 8, 1980. Chetan Anand is a four-time national badminton champion in 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010.

he managed to ensure that the world no. 10 in position after that, he could not maintain a top 10 ranking due to an ankle injury. he was also awarded with India’s “Arjuna Award”.
Chetan Anand got a good opportunity when legend, former badminton player Prakash Padukone sent him to an international academy in Kualalampur, Malaysia where he improved his skills.

he won his first team title of his career at the National Junior Ranking Tournament, he won the Asian Satellite Tournament in Bangalore, Karnataka. His current rank is 54 and he is coached by S.m Arif.

His father’s name is Harshvardhan and his mother’s name is Suguna. He also has a younger brother named Sandeep Anand. Chetan Anand was fond of badminton in his childhood and he started playing with his father during practice.

Chetan Anand was married to badminton player Jwala Gutta and they divorced in 2010. Chetan Anand remarried Sarada Govardhini Jasti in October 2012 and has two daughters. It is operated by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).

The Journey of Chetan Anand

Chetan Anand played two years in the U-12 and U-15 categories and achieved great success. He participated in the Mini Nationals held in Mumbai in 1992. His partnership with A.

Prithvi proved to be a successful combination when they won two titles at the National Open Championship when Chetan was just 15 years old. Chetan Anand finished second in the team event.

Chetan was looked after by Prakash Padukone during the competition. He immediately recognized that the young man had talent and decided to send him to the World Academy Camp in Malaysia.

This training in Kuala Lumpur changed Chetan Anand’s life forever. His technique has improved by leaps and bounds and his game has taken a step forward, as has his career.

He won the junior championship in Chennai. He also made it to the big leagues by reaching the semi-finals of all the major tournaments at the top level. This performance helped him get into the top eight in the rankings.

Chetan Anand won his first Asian Satellite Championship in 2001. The win was special as it was his first major tournament win. In 2004, he became the national badminton champion for the first time.

He followed the show in 2007, 2008 and 2010. He was awarded the Arjuna Award by the President in 2006 for his outstanding and outstanding performance in the Commonwealth Games.

In the 2006 CWG, Chetan Anand won a bronze medal in the men’s team and another in the mixed team. In the 2010 edition of the Games, in New Delhi, he won the silver medal in the mixed team event.

Chetan also won the Irish International Tournament in 2005, Toulouse Open, Bitburger Open, Dutch GP 2009 and Syed Modi GP in December 2009. Chetan’s career high of 10 came in 2009. Unfortunately, his career ended after 2010 due to injuries.

Real Sucess

Chetan tasted his first major international success in 2004, when he won the LE VOLANT D’OR tournament, also known as Open TOULOUSE. After that, he won the Sri Lanka Satellite Tournament in 2005 and finished second in the Iceland Express International Tournament.

In the same year, he also won the Welsh National Championship and the Irish International Championship. He won the finals of the Yonex Polish Open 2006 and won the Cyprus International Badminton Championship in 2007.

Again, he failed to compete in the 2007 India International Challenge Championship and won the gold medal in the Kenya International Tournament in 2008. In the same year, Chetan won the XXI Spanish International Tournament and the Nepal International Series Tournament.

Golden age

He had great success in 2008 and won two more championships viz. the Yonex Czech International tournament and the Bitburger Open Grand Prix tournament, where they won the Yonex Dutch Open Grand Prix final in the same year.

Accomplishments:-

  • In 1999 he became the champion of the small country.
  • Chetan won his first Asian satellite championship in Bangalore in 2001, which was a long start; He later won 15 major championships in India. After winning the 2004 Volant d’Or in France, he became an international celebrity.
  • He won the national badminton championship four times: 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010. He won the men’s singles championship at the South Asian Games in 2004, 2006 and 2010.
  • Chetan, won the Irish & Scottish Open Badminton tournament in Ireland and Scotland in 2005. He received the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2006.
  • In 2008, he won his first Grand Prix title at the Bitburger Open and was the first Indian to win a Grand Prix. He was also a runner at the Dutch Grand Prix in 2008.
  • In 2009, Chetan won two titles; Dutch Open Grand Prix and Jaypee Syed Modi Memorial Grand Prix in Lucknow. In 2009, Chetan reached the 10th position in the world rankings, which was his career best.
  • Chetan won his third Commonwealth Championship in 2010 with a silver medal in the mixed team event. In 2014, Chetan decided to start the ‘Chetan Anand Badminton Academy’ to continue his involvement in the sport, and also coach the Indian badminton team.
