Parupalli Kashyap – One of the best Indian badminton player

Parupalli Kashyap biography

Parupalli Kashyap is an Indian badminton player. He completed his training under National Coach Pullela Gopichand and now he trains other students who are passionate about playing international badminton at Gopichand Badminton Academy. Kashyap was awarded the 2012 Arjuna Prize by the Government of India.

He was born on September 8, 1986 in the family of Uday Shankar and Subhadra Shankar of Guntur. He was 11 years old and Kashyap was the first to enroll in the training camp of S.M. Arif in Hyderabad, India.

His father has a job that keeps him transported, so his family often moves from one place to another. Parupalli made his first impact in Indian badminton when he won the gold medal in the 2005 Boys Singles Tournament.

So how did Kashyap get into badminton? Kashyap’s first encounter with badminton was purely recreational. However, Parupali later attended a summer camp where she learned badminton.

Also, Kashyap is fond of badminton after the camp. The boy’s activity has become a passion. Kashyap enrolled at the Prakash Padukone Academy to improve his badminton skills. He also spent three years training in an academy.

Personal life of Parupalli Kashyap

One of the famous sports couple in India, Parupalli Kashyap and Saina Nehwal got married in 2018 after a long relationship. 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Parupalli credits his success with his girlfriend Saina Nehwal for helping and motivating him to become a better badminton player for India. His hobby is singing, his favorite cricketer is Sachin Tendulkar and his favorite singer is Sonu Nigam.

Professional Carrer of Parupalli Kashyap

Parupalli started playing badminton at the age of 11 but started his professional career at the national level from 2005 and at the international level from 2006. In 2005 he won the singles title at the National Championship junior badminton open. In 2006, he participated in the Hong Kong Open where he reached the pre-quarterfinals.

That same year, he had one of his best performances at the Bitburger Open and reached his semi-finals. After this win, his world ranking improved to 64. He also represented India in the Asian Games in the same year. In the 33rd National Games, he defeated local champion Chetan Anand and won the gold medal.

In 2009, he reached the semi-finals of the Dutch Open and the Senior National Badminton Championship and the Singapore Super Series. It was at the 2010 Commonwealth Games when Parupalli made India proud by winning a bronze medal. He reached the semi-finals of the 2010 Indian Open Grand Prix.

In 2012, he reached the semi-finals of the Djaram Indonesia Open 2012. He missed the quarterfinals of the Summer 2012 tournament. Although he won the Olympics, he made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to reach this level in the Olympics.

After winning in Korea in 2013, his ranking improved and he was placed in 10th place in the world. According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings of April 2013, his ranking rose to sixth place after his impressive performance in the match against Indonesian Taufiq Hidayat.

Parupalli’s most notable and memorable achievement was the gold medal he won at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The gold he brought to India for the men’s event came 32 years after Syed Modi won in 1982.

Kashyap’s First International Medal

Kashyap’s first international medal came at the 2010 Common Wealth Games, where he beat compatriot Chetan Anand to win the bronze medal in the men’s singles.

Apart from this win, he also played an important role in India’s victory in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. For his outstanding performance, they won the silver medal for India.

After the regular Economy Games, his curse continued when he started losing again in the semi-finals and quarterfinals. In the 2010 Indian Open Golden Grand Prix, he reached the semi-finals but was unfortunately eliminated by Gurusai Datt from his hometown.

Then in the national championship, he lost in the final against Arvind Bhat. At the Indonesia Open in Djaram in 2012, he defeated Chen Long, the world number three in badminton.

He also defeated 16th-ranked BWF Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and reached the semi-finals, where he lost again.

Kashyap is sixth in the world. On April 25, 2013, he was charged. Kashyap is currently ranked 26th in the world as on February 16, 2021.

Kashyap has won many championships and competitions. In 2012, he won the Indian Open Grand Prix gold.

Kashyap also has a strong Commonwealth Games track record. Kashyap won silver in the mixed team event at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Similarly, he won a bronze medal in the team. Also, Parupalli Kashyap achieved great success in Commonwealth Games 2014.

Kashyap’s victory ended India’s 32-year badminton gold medal deficit. He achieved this by winning the men’s singles event at the 2014 Common Wealth Games.

.Padukone and Modi are former gold medalists from India. Kashyap has won two BWF Grand Prix Championships.

He also won the BWF International Challenger/Series. Similarly, the Indian tourer finished second in the BWF World Tour.

Kashyap has also received many accolades in India. Kashyap received $35,000 from the Badminton Association of India for his Commonwealth Games win.

Additionally, the Telangana government awarded him a cash prize of $70,000 for his gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
