Somdev Devvarman was born on February 13, 1985 . He is an Indian former tennis player. He made history for being the only college player to make three consecutive NCAA Finals, winning back-to-back Finals during his junior and senior years at the University of Virginia. Only three other players have reached this record since the 1950s.

Carrer of Somdev Devvarman
Somdev Devvarman first climbed the ranks after winning three straight NCAA championships. His parents moved to Kolkata when he was very young. His father was later transferred to Chennai and that’s when he started learning tennis at the age of 9. He started participating in big tournaments from 2002.
He moved to the United States for higher education. While in college, he won the NCAA tournament three times and that too in a row. He began his professional tennis career after signing a contract with a sports management company named Mamba International. He won the singles title at the Futures tournament held in New York and also appeared in two wins in partnership with Treat Huey.
He emerged the winner at the Lexington Challenger in 2008 and was the first runner-up at the Chennai Open in 2009. He is the only Indian to win a Grand Slam singles event. The biggest moments of his career came when he won gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
He decided to retire from tennis and announced the same on January 2, 2017. During a press conference, he said that he might be losing interest in the game and that it would be of no use to expand his career and that is why he wants to retire from time.
2011: Breakthrough
Somdev started 2011 ranked at no. 108. He started the season at the Chennai Open, an ATP 250 tournament, and lost to qualifier David Goffin in the first round.
Somdev received a wild card for the 2011 Australian Open due to his strong performance in 2010. Contesting for the first time in his career, he defeated Tommy Robredo in the first round. Somdev was the top scorer at the tournament in Singapore, where he beat Slovakia’s Andrej Martin in the quarterfinals.
