Karman Kaur Thandi is an Indian tennis player who has been considered as a future champion and probably always in the top 50.Thandi has turned heads with her great game and strong personality, and has steadily climbed the WTA ranks. Karman Kaur Thandi was born in New Delhi, India and started playing tennis at the age of eight. Her parents supported his sports career, and his mother often accompanied him to the court when he was young. Aditya Sachdeva directed Thandi, and he also worked at the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice for a short time.
During his time in Nice, he trained frequently with the Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, which helped him to evaluate his game against the top-20 stars. Thandi cites Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams as her role models in women’s tennis. Among men, he likes Roger Federer. In 2012, Karman won the MCC Adidas Nationals U14 singles and doubles titles in Chennai. He then won his first ITF Juniors title by competing at the G5 event in Indore in April 2013. Ranked 14th at U-16 in the country, Karman was selected for the Oceania Junior Fed Cup Asia 2014 Under 16 in Kuching, Malaysia.
In October 2014, her inspiration, Serena Williams, gave her an autographed racquet after she won the WTA Future Stars Under-16 title in Singapore without dropping a set. Karman won her first doubles title on the ITF Pro Tour, while Driti Tatachar Venugopal won the ITF $10,000 Gulbarga tournament. After joining the second team in the quarterfinals of the Junior Australian Open in the round of 16, he joined the Moretoglou Tennis Academy in France. Patrick Mauretoglou is the director of the academy, who has coached players such as Serena Williams and Stephanos Tsitipas.
This allowed him to gain a full level of education in the sport in which he excelled. He reached number 32 in his career in January 2016. In June 2018, he won the ITF Pro Circuit singles title in Hong Kong for $25,000. His first title was one when he beat the top four in the final. Soon after, she won her first WTA doubles title at the WTA Taipei OEC Open 2018. She achieved this by teaming up with fellow Indian Ankita Raina.
Thandi started the tournament with a win over American Robin Anderson. He beat the American 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the tournament. In the semis, she met another formidable challenge in the form of Francesca Di Lorenzo. But he overcame it with straight-sets wins.
Winning this tournament is also at the international level. At the start of the tournament, he was suffering in the late 400s. And now, it has jumped 200 places and sits at 270th.
This huge rise in the WTA rankings also made him the number one Indian tennis player.
Karman, who trains at the RoundGlass Tennis Academy, was selected as the winner by a panel of fashion heavyweights including Dia Mirza, Raghavendra Rathore, Nikhil Kamath, Shalini Passi, Maneka Gandhi, Ambika Pillai, Kunal Rawal, Carol Gracias, Tarun Khiwal, Ravi Jaipuria, Sanjay Nigam and Vagish Pathak at a function held in Delhi NCR.
