Suresh Raina, Former Indian Cricketer: Attacking left-handed batsman who went for big hits with impunity and cleared the pitch with panache when he was at the top of his game, he was also an electric defender all round. Talking about his family, Suresh hails from a Pandit Kashmiri family from Rainawari, Srinagar. Similarly, he came from a military family which helped him to maintain a disciplined life.
Also, Suresh has three elder brothers namely Dinesh, Mukesh and Naresh Raina. Similarly, he also has an elder sister named Renu Raina. Their parents are father Tirlokchand and mother Parvesh Raina. At the age of 14, Suresh decided to play cricket and moved to Specialist Government Sports College.
Raina Personal life
Suresh Raina’s father’s name is Trilokchand Raina and his mother’s name is Parvesh Raina. His father served in the Indian Army; he is a military officer in a law firm. Raina’s family belongs to ‘Rainawari’ in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, Raina’s family settled in Muradnagar Town, Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh in the late 1990s after the exodus of Hindus from Kashmir. Suresh Raina also has two siblings, a sister and an elder brother. His elder brother, Dinesh Raina, is serving in the Indian Army. Suresh Raina is a teacher of Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, 1998, Lucknow.
Thieves attacked Raina’s uncle, Ashok Kumar, while robbing their house in Punjab. Unfortunately, the attack was fatal, resulting in the death of his uncle.
So, as soon as that happened, he retired from the 2020 Indian Premier League and decided to be with his family in this difficult time. Raina is happily married to Priyanka since April 3, 2015 and is blessed with a daughter and a son.
Domestic Cricket career of Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina in 2000 decided to play cricket and started attending Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow. He became the captain of Uttar Pradesh U-16. In February 2003, Suresh Raina made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh against Assam but did not play again until the following season.
In late 2003, Raina traveled to Pakistan for the Asian U-19 ODI Championship before being selected for the 2004 U-19 World Cup, where he scored three half-centuries, including 90 off just 38 balls. Suresh Raina was later awarded the Border-Gavaskar Scholarship to train at the Australian Cricket Academy and in early 2005 made his first-class debut and scored 645 runs during that season at an average of 53.75.
International Carrer
Suresh Raina is hailed as the best defender in the Indian team. He is a central player. In the 2011 Cricket World Cup, he scored 36 runs and took India to 260 runs.
Suresh Raina, on India’s tour of England, scored only half-century (50 runs), and on top of that he showed poor performance by scoring only 27 runs while playing seven. As all opponents know, his weakness for small balls, they used it, making him struggle during the process. In the final test of the tournament, he managed to bowl 29 balls without any score, which allowed him to break the record for the longest match without any score. He was dismissed by playing as many as 29 balls in this final Test, the longest in India’s Test history.
In India’s tour to Sri Lanka in 2012, in the third ODI, he scored 65 runs from 45 balls which helped India win by five wickets in hand. Also, due to his excellent performance, he also won the player’s award. Apart from this performance in the third ODI, he showed poor consistency scoring just one point per game. Yuvraj Singh, who made a comeback in England’s tour of India after recovering from cancer, has taken Raina’s place in the Indian national team.
He was named the 12th man in the T20 World Cup “Team of the Tournament” by the International Cricket Council 2012. He scored a hundred against England during England’s tour of India in 2012-13 at Cardiff. In this match, his performance was so impressive that he was voted one of the best ODI batsmen of the year by ESPNCricinfo. Suresh Raina was not selected for the Indian team against the West Indies, where the team played two Twenty20 International matches. He returned to the ODI squad for the match against New Zealand. In October, Suresh Raina was selected in the India C squad for the 2018 Deodhar Trophy. In 2011, the Indian team visited the West Indies after the World Cup. He also became the first player in the world to score 100 runs in the Indian Premier League and the first player to score 100 in a single series.
