Umesh Kumar Tilak Yadav is an Indian national cricketer who represents the Vidarbha cricket team in the top domestic cricket league. Born on October 25, 1987, he is a right-handed batsman from Nagpur, Maharashtra. He is the first player from the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra to represent India in Test cricket.

Umesh Yadav, the fast bowler, was playing against Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman in the Duleep Trophy less than two times when he used the leather ball for the first time. His meteoric rise was remarkable as he represented the undefeated Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy Plate League. Yadav, the son of a coal miner, aspires to become a police officer.

During the 2010 World Twenty20 tournament, he was sent to West Indies to replace Praveen Kumar. The Test team was called up for the November 2010 tour to South Africa.
Later in the 2010 IPL season, Delhi Daredevils signed him now (Delhi Capitals), where he was recognized for his potential and joined Team India. Umesh was selected for Australia’s Tests in 2014 and continued on the ODI circuit both at home and abroad, and he followed that up by becoming one of India’s leading batsmen in 2015. International Carrer
Umesh Yadav was first selected for the T20 World Cup in 2010 but could not play any matches. He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe later that year. He went wicketless in the match, conceding 48 runs.
After being sidelined for several matches, he was brought into the squad against England in September 2011. He played 3 matches in the 5 match ODI series, claiming 4 wickets at an average of 38.25.
The fast bowler has become the first player from Vidarbha to play Test cricket for India. He played against Australia in 2012. He played in all four Tests, taking 14 wickets at an average of 39.35. In the third Test at the WACA Ground in Perth, he took his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, with figures of 5/93.
When the Windies toured India in 2018, he reached his second five-wicket haul, his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket, and his career-best figures of 6/88, in the opening of the second Test. In the second innings of the Windies he took another 4 wickets and took his first run of 10 wickets in Test cricket, with a match best figure of 10/133. Yadav was named player of the match in this test.
In IPL
Umesh Yadav has had loyal franchises backing him. But it was the Delhi Daredevils who first looked at the raw talent and offered a fast bowler for the 2010 season, with Umesh playing a few matches but the numbers didn’t spread much. He missed out in 2011 before making a strong comeback in 2012 – 19 wickets to 23 and the fourth highest wicket taker.
He had another good stint in the capital city before joining Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. Umesh went there and immediately won the IPL, his contribution was 11 wickets. With the change of appearance at the Eden Gardens, the Indian pacer has become an important member of the KKR team. During his time in Kolkata, Umesh picked up 48 wickets – still the fourth highest in the franchise’s history.
However, in a bid to build the team for the future, Umesh was left out for the 2018 edition. Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed this opportunity and bought him for INR 4.2 crore. He immediately repaid the trust in management by claiming 20 wickets in his first season and kept it up for the following year.
Umesh Yadav made a comeback for KKR in 2022 where he took 16 wickets in 12 matches. With the new ball, he took some early wickets and his fortune in the competition was also lower than in the previous IPL season. In 2023, Umesh Yadav can bring experience to Ferguson’s side playing at home at Eden Gardens. KKR is hoping to have another successful season this season.

- He also has an elder brother named Ramesh Yadav. His father, Tilak Yadav, was from the village of Govindpur in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, India. He moved to Nagpur from Jharkhand and started working as a laborer in a coal mine in Khaperkheda, Nagpur.
- His brother, Ramesh Yadav was acquitted in the robbery case. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo on 28 May 2010.
- He conceded 48 runs and 8 wickets in his first ODI match. The following year, on November 6, 2011, he made his Test debut against West Indies in New Delhi.
- He was India’s highest wicket taker and third overall in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. He took 18 wickets at an average of 17.83 and a save of 4.98 in the World Cup.
- Umesh also holds the record for the highest strike rate in a Test cricket innings. He scored 31 runs off 310 balls against South Africa in October 2019 and broke the 15-year-old record previously held by Stephen Fleming.
- Before Umesh became a professional cricketer, he was offered to join the army and police but he turned it down. He was not selected for his college cricket team as he had never played for any club and only played tennis ball cricket. Then he joined Vidarbha Gymkhana and started playing leather football.
- Vidharbha’s Ranji Trophy team captain Pritam Gandhe was impressed with his pace and ensured that Umesh represented Air India in the Twenty20 tournament. Pritam Gandhe said about Umesh’s early career: “He was a rare and angry person. And it’s really fast – too fast. I think if he lands at least three out of six balls in the stumps lineup, he will annoy the bowlers.
- Umesh Yadav met Tanya Wadhwa in 2010 at a party after an IPL match when she was still studying in college and was instantly attracted to her humility and eloquence. After three years of dating, they decided to get married.
- Tanya Wadhwa and Umesh Yadav got engaged on April 16, 2013 and got married on May 29, 2013 at Center Point Hotel, Nagpur. The couple was blessed with a daughter on January 1, 2021.
- Umesh is the fastest Indian bowler with a maximum speed of 152.5 km/h. In 2011, his mother Kishori Devi died of diabetes, an expensive treatment that her family could not afford.
- Earlier, Umesh was not sold in IPL 2022 mega auction, but KKR bought him for Rs 2 crore.
