Ricky Ponting, full Ricky Thomas Ponting was the former Australian cricketer and manager who was the country’s leading batsman in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Born in Launceston, Tasmania on December 19, 1974, Ricky Ponting is the eldest of four children born to Graeme and Lorraine Ponting. Graeme is a “good club cricketer” and plays Aussie Rules football, while Lorraine is a vigorouso state champion. His uncle Greg Campbell played Test cricket for Australia in 1989 and 1990.
Ponting’s parents first lived in Prospect, 4.1 km (2.5 mi) south of the city centre; However, they moved to the Newnham suburb, 6 km (3.7 mi) north of central Launceston. In June 2002 he married his long-term girlfriend, law student Rianna Jennifer Cantor, Ponting credits her as the reason for his maturity. They have three children.
Their daughter Emmy Charlotte was born in Sydney on July 26, 2008. Matisse’s second daughter Ellie was born in Sydney on September 8, 2011. The third child and first son, Fletcher William was born in Melbourne on September 24, 2014.
During his career, Ricky Ponting played 168 Test matches and scored 13,378 runs at an average of 51.85. He also played in 375 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and scored 13,704 runs at an average of 42.03. He is one of the highest scorers in the history of international cricket.
Ponting is also the captain of the successful Australian cricket team. He led Australia in 77 Test matches and 230 ODIs, and captained the team during its successful run in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Under his leadership, Australia has won two World Cups in 2003 and 2007. He is regarded as one of the most successful captains in Australian cricket history.
In addition to his international career, Ponting has played domestic cricket in Australia for the Tasmanian Tigers and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Ricky Ponting began his international cricket career in 1995, making his ODI debut in a Test match against South Africa. During his career, he played alongside some of the greatest cricketers of all time including Steve Waugh, Shane Warne, Brett Lee and Adam Gilchrist among others.
Ricky Ponting was not a member of Australia’s T20I team, but he played in the T20 International in 2007. Unfortunately, India lost to Australia in the semi-finals. In his T20I career, Ponting played a total of 17 matches and scored 401 runs at an average of 28.64. His highest score in T20 cricket is 98, which he scored against New Zealand in 2005.
Ponting holds the world record for being part of a team with the most ODI victories – he ended up on the winning side in 262 ODIs.
