Who is Tom Latham

Tom Latham represents the New Zealand national cricket team in international competitions such as Tests and One Day Internationals. In ODIs, he holds the position of vice-captain in the team. Since 2020, he has been the captain of the New Zealand national test team. The all-rounder is considered as a universal player who can combine the positions of batsman and wicketkeeper.

Biography of Latham

Thomas William Maxwell Latham (born 2 April 1992), commonly known as Tom Latham, is a New Zealand cricketer, who represents New Zealand in all forms of sport and is the vice-captain of the National Test and One Day International teams ( ONE). In January 2020, Latham captained the New Zealand Test team for the first time.

He is basically the stage who also worked as a wicket keeper. Playing for Canterbury, he made his first-class cricket debut against Central District in 2010 in the Plunket Shield. He was selected for the One Day International series against Zimbabwe in 2012 and made his ODI debut on 3 February 2012. He made his debut against India in February 2014.

Tom Latham: how a professional cricket career developed

Tom Latham was born on April 2, 1992 in Christchurch, Canterbury – New Zealand. Cricket in Tom’s life did not appear at one time: his father, Rod Latham, was a former professional cricketer who played in Test matches and One Day Internationals.

Therefore, it is not surprising that the child followed in his father’s footsteps and, along the way, achieved more success. Tom Latham built his cricket career as a left-arm spinner, but he can also play as a wicket-keeper and a right-arm spinner in the field. In the youth team of U-17, played by Tom Latham, a novice player appeared among his team.

He was the best player in his team who managed to score the highest score three times in a row. In fact, Tom was able to achieve such results because of the daily advice given by his father, who taught his son new cricket techniques.

In 2010, Tom Latham made his cricketing debut for Canterbury. 2 years later, on February 3, 2012, at the age of 19, he played for the first time in a One Day International against Zimbabwe. In his first game, Tom scored 24 points. In the summer of June 30 of the same year, he made his Twenty20 International debut against a team from the West Indies, making 15 and 19 in the series. On February 14, 2014, Tom Latham made his Test debut against India.

Professional Achievements of Tom Latham:

In 2014, he was ranked second in the Test Series run-scorers list.
In 2015, he received the Tran Tasman Trophy for his outstanding performance in a test match against the Australian national team. In 2016, he got his highest score – 137.
In 2020, he captained the New Zealand national cricket team for the first time. Tom Latham’s team played:
New Zealand U-19, New Zealand A, New Zealand, Canterbury U-19, Canterbury 2nd XI, Canterbury, Scotland, Durham 2nd XI.
Tom Latham plays cricket under the number 48.
